Noughts & Crosses
Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman is a really good book. It tells avout racism and love and how unfair some people are treated. This book is about Callum Mc Gregor, a nought (who would be a white person in our world) and Persephone Hadley, a cross (who would be african-american). Crosses rule the world and Noughts are discriminated and the bad race. But Sephy and Callum are best friends. Of course nobody knows about their friendship, because Sephy's dad, who is a minister hates the noughts. Callum is allowed to join the same school like Sephy, because he is very smart, but he doesn't like it, yet the teachers and pupils treat him horrible. One day also his sister commits suicide, because she and her Cross-boyfriend were attacked years ago. So Callum's dad and brother join the LM, the Liberation Militia, a terror organisation. Jude, Callum's brother, bombs the Dundale-Center, but his dad says, he has bombed it and gets hanged. Sephy hears this and wants to help Callum, but he doesn't want this, so Sephy goes abroad and writes before she goes a letter, that if he likes her, he should come and say goodbye, but he reads the letter too late, and doesn't make it in time. But this isn't the end of this story, people will get hanged, kidnapped and pregnant in the following chapters. But I won't tell you the whole story, you have to read the book yourself.
I loved the book it is very cool and I cried at some times. The storyline is very thrilling and the protagonists and also the not so important persons are truly well described. You can see, how sad Callum is to be always discriminated and how Sephy and Csllum have some up and downs, but are too scared to tand in for their love. There are so many details, that are touching you and you can see the images in your head. When you read this book, you will have a really stunning look how the racism can be and maybe you see after reading this book, that there is still racism and discrimination in our world. This author made really good job and I am looking forward to read the next sequels. So, READ THIS BOOK!
